Fabulous Fibonacci: Happy Hour!

Since we were kids we are mesmerized by how watches are displayed in advertisements. Why do they always indicate 10 past 10?

While reading The Fabulous Fibonacci Numbers, Pieter recently discovered a possible answer.

“What might the Fibonacci numbers have to do with the way a watch is displayed in a showcase or in an advertisement? Well here we are using the geometric form of the Fibonacci numbers, namely the Golden Rectangle”.

    I always ‘learned’ that the watch needed to have a smiley face….. hence the 10 past 10 or 10 to two.. Probably a bit a more prozaic explanation then the fibonacci one
